Sustainable management of resources

Fish is a gift of Nature; a precious resource we must protect and nurture for present and future generations.

Three main factors enhance its well-being:

  • Maintaining sustainable stocks
  • Minimising our impact in the process of fishing
  • Managing fisheries that can grow and thrive

Each year, marine biologists research the distribution, size and yield of species. From this they arrive at a recommended ‘total allowable catch’ (TAC).

In the case of our fishing grounds in the North Atlantic, the TAC is reviewed by the International Council for
the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), which presents
its recommendation for approval to the relevant management bodies.

At Ocean Trawlers, we observe our obligations under
the TAC, and as part of our certification from the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).
